Lots of catching up with friends and an enormous amount of coffee and cake lots of exercise but not so much cycling as we are back in the hills.
On the 28 October we were awakened at 0300 in the morning by movement on the campsite and realized the flood must be here, it is so unusual for this site to flood as the level was raised on the site by 3 feet a few years ago.
We used the internet on campsite to book Troutbeck head campsite for four days arriving at 1200 today. We left the site at 0455 and travelled up the A66 to a large layby where we slept until 0800.
We are Now in a holiday cottage for a while getting the van’s habitation check, cleaning and getting ready for Spain. Lots of cycling up to Silloth and down to Maryport.
11 – 18 October 18, 2021 Keswick The Lake District
Back at one of our favorite places a good journey up stopping at The Harvester Ingleton for coffee and Maureen a lovely Bacon Roll. Weather not so good but managed a couple of cycles stopping for our usual coffe breaks at Portinscale and Threlkeld. Caught up with a few friends. MOT the van and some new tyres. A couple of good walkabouts.
Met up with friends for coffee and cycling to Ripley Castle and Wetherby a lovely 3 days catching up. We had a visitor on the site see picture below. Click Image for BIG
Cycle day as the weather is good this morning so off down to Naburn lock, river more in flood than last year. Lunch shower and laundry then a walk into town for a look round then maybe an evening walk as the weather is still warm.
Bad rain down A1 to York stopped for shopping and Fuel at Boroughbridge arrived about 1330 difficult getting to the site on a narrow road with traffic lights not working properly and angry car driver “####” Walk into york with umbrella ugh.
6 October 2021 York
Walk into town for a walkabout and a Starbucks coffee in the morning and in the afternoon a walk into town via the Millennium bridge and some different streets, managed to find a new washing up bowl for the van after 2 years of searching. In the evening a walkabout in the park next to the site.
Spotted some monsters in the river Ouse we may see them on our cycle tomorrow down to Naburn lock.
Cycle into Town in the morning then heavy rain but cleared in the afternoon so a second cycle into town a different route passing the second rowing club in Durham.
Below is a picture of a lovely camping car that turned up on Seahouses campsite one of the nicest we have seen.
A walk down on to the harbor first thing then off we go down to Durham a good drive down road works not too busy on a Sunday. Rain stopped just after lunch so got the bikes out for a cycle into Durham for a coffee. (88th cycle since leaving Cumbria).Town too busy so turned back to the site with the wind on our back for a change. Washing tonight.
A wettish day but still managed to get out for a few walks started to cycle towards Newton on Sea but black clouds spotted us and headed towards us so we turned and cycled along the back road to Bamburgh again. The Lifeboat was out today what a magnificent boat.
2 October 2021 Seahouses
Wet but managed a cycle again up to Bamburgh very windy but almost traffic free on cycle route 1 to Bamburgh. If you have no plant pots then why not think out of the box.
Cycle along to Bamburgh then Warren Mill along the backroads down to Seahouses and on to Beadnell very windy and cold first thing. Walk in the afternoon along the beach towards Bamburgh Castle and our usual evening walkies.
A wet start so just walkies today got a lovely picture of the harbour this evening. The other pictures are doors and a tow ball cover?
A cold start to the day so we called in for some shopping before heading North again up to Seahouses 1 hour 15 min. drive a few road works but no hold up. Stopped at the garage in Seahouses for some petrol a full tank now for heading south when we leave. Booking easy no need to visit reception. Had a walkabout in the town down to the harbor then out to the Old Gun powder house. Some showers promised then a good day tomorrow.
