Cycle up to Benicarlo first thing took a picture of the castle again just to show you the weather today.

Is the name the wrong way round?

Its lovely and warm but one of the locals has put the outside heating on.

I do love these traditional dress parades stunning.

Last night out clubbing

Walk into town for coffee and a bit of shopping then back for lunch.

These rubbish bins are nicely hidden away like it.

These would make a lot of pigeon pie.

Something Special on today so a cycle up into the old town then searching out the event.

Very interesting.

The “Descent from the tree” for Sant Antoni in Peñíscola refers to a unique tradition during the Saint Anthony festivities (January) where a large, decorated pine tree is climbed, and participants (often young men) descend it, symbolizing a joyful, daring act within the broader celebrations of bonfires, blessings of animals, and processions honoring St. Anthony the Great, patron saint of animals. It’s a key event in the town’s historic celebrations, distinct from the typical romerías (pilgrimages) to the Ermita de San Antonio.

What it involves:

• The Tree:A tall pine tree, often decorated and erected in a central location.
• The Climb & Descent:Young men (and sometimes others) climb the tree and then descend in a festive, sometimes chaotic, manner.
• The Festivities:This descent is part of larger events that include:
  • Bonfires (Fogueres):Lit on Saturday night for feasting and celebration.
  • Animal Blessing:On Sunday, animals and horses are blessed.
  • Parades:Decorated carriages and cavalry parade through the old town

Not sure this was happy about all the horses !

Fab looking hotel Peniscola is full of hotels a very big tourist town.

This metal work on the roundabout is a giant crab.

I have had a really good cycle around Benicarlo and been to new streets I have not been before a very SOUL charging day.

Went right across town to the back of BENICARLO Ha Ha

Coffee here like been in a greenhouse.

8 January 2026 SPAIN Peniscola

Moved this morning a steady 2 hour drive down stopping for a coffee at one of the services. Toll just outside Sitges gone up in price for the new year.

On arrival given a good pitch and only one other English couple on site, temperature gone up to 17 degrees today just a short drive down the coast a micro climate EH!

Got the bike out for a quick look around the lovely castle and a very very BIG crane.

The van on the pitch behind me should not run out of water.

Bus into town for shopping as I move tomorrow further down Spain hope it gets a bit warmer 0 degrees in the van this morning its the coldest year in Spain for all of us.

This and many other sites used to show international flags but a lot now don’t wonder why?

Washing day again before I move and while at the laundry I noticed how may solar panels the large camper van had on its roof.

Bus into town and walk about down on to the seafront.

In the afternoon a cycle down into Villanova found a lovely baby cactus.

These ruins look better ever year looks like a new building site now

A damp start to the day so bus into town I think I will write a book called a Busman’s Holiday I don’t know if it will turn out to be a comedy or a horror? WHAT 50€ NOTE FOR 2 people  ####

Even this statue seems unhappy today.

You need to be well travelled for the next picture it took me over 100,000 miles to come across a Q without any people there?

An unusual day had an afternoon off with the weather a bit uck!

If I told you what happened on the bus today you would not believe it. Ha Ho ?

Market day so had a walk round the market looking at lovely clothes stalls and the food market.

Into town as usual for coffee and cake and a walk about lunch then a cycle up to the hills at the back of the site.

Scary bus ride into Villanova for coffee cake and shopping back to the site for lunch.

After lunch decided I enjoyed the cycle along the beach promenade yesterday so down to Cubelles on to Cunit and up to the Port de Segur de Calafell a super ride with some interesting things.

Notice a beach front camping car site at Cunit and a Port stop over place for camping cars at Calafell.

Graffiti all over Spain todays collection.

A lovely cycle glad I pushed the boundaries and went that little bit further.

Up early for another hand washing day weather good.

Cycle out to Sitges today first thing on the way this Churros van always amazes me over the years by the size of the que there must be 50 people waiting at 1000.

No coffee as most of the cafes busy so back to the site for lunch. After lunch another cycle to Cubelles and further along the beach towards Castelldefels a new place for me love the avenue of trees some interesting ones.

Back at the site its the usual New Years Day Party time for some of the campers.
