Had our usual walkabout in town with coffee before we leave for Wells a 17 minutes drive along a very narrow road a bus squeezed past us with only 1” to spare, a wagon had to reverse as I had traffic behind me. Arrived at site and a First in 13 years they put us on the wrong pitch?
Walked up into Wells and the Bishops palace was open this time. Lovely little town with lots of independent shops
12 February 2022 Wells
. Cycle down to Wookey Hole this morning on some small roads then up into town for a coffee very busy as it is Market day. In the afternoon had a walk into town again a 30 mins. walk one way.
Back at Cheddar for a few days as we wait for the campsite at Wells to open. As we have not cycled the strawberry line for 5 years we thought we would cycle down as far as Thatchers Brewery. Since our last visit it has got bigger with an additional 2 large buildings going up and the cycle way re-routed for the moment. Stopped for a coffee in Axminster served in an Antique shop ? Walked up and down the George a few times.

A bit of a wet start so canal bank wet muddy and slippy so we walked up to the top of the locks to a small coffee shop.
7 February 2022 Devizes
Cycle into town and a good look around coffee still finding things to photograph. The picture below is very unusual in a garden? Afternoon walk down to lock under repair the new gates had just arrived on a truck.
Cycle into town stopped for a coffee near the castle at table 31 lovely coffee. Had a cycle about in town exploring. Back to the site then in the afternoon cycled down the canal towards Melksham.
Cycle along the towpath into Devizes the locks are amazing stopped for a coffee and while in the market square we noticed a sign on the market cross that tells a tale:-read below.
On January 25 1753, Ruth and three other women agreed to go to Devizes market and go equal shares in a sack of wheat. The woman collecting the money found she was 3d short and demanded the money from Ruth, who declared that she had paid her share and that God should strike her dead if she lied. She immediately fell stone dead and the money owed was in her hand. An inquest later stated that she had been struck down dead by the vengeance of God with a lie in her mouth.
In the afternoon walked down the towpath in the opposite direction the wildlife here loves to be photographed.
We also spotted a lovely bird box made from an old teapot.

Did a bit of booking this morning to adjust our trip due to lack of campsite openings on the south coast so all done for now. A good drive down after a bit of shopping but difficult getting through Bristol. Booked in, lunch then a walk alongside the canal toward Caen hill locks.
Saw the below bird it was only 3 feet away from us.

Cycle this morning route 41 alongside Bristol Channel we came across a lovely graffiti in an old quarry, back into town for a coffee.
After lunch cycle route 33 – 334 through Ashton Red Deer Park then back over the Clifton Suspension Bridge then through Clifton back to Bristol Wharf a good cycle and lots of Deer in the park.
Walk down the far side of the wharf into Bristol stopping off at the Cathedral for a look as last time we were here in 2017 it was closed had a coffee in the café then back to the site for lunch. In the afternoon had 2 walkabouts one to look at Aardman offices, (Wallace and Gromit).
