10 – 15 June 2019 Harrogate

Had a good journey up from Stratford on Avon. After booking in and some lunch we caught the bus into Harrogate town. Tried Costa Coffee again after a bad experience last year and still just as bad. Ugh!!! Spent a few days with friends visiting Knaresborough and Ripon.

Not been able to do any running or cycling due to constant rain until Saturday morning when we managed a short cycle down to the Riverside Café in Knaresborough.

Got a surprise one day in Harrogate when a couple approached us and said “Don’t we know you from Denia in Spain?” How lovely to have been approached by them. Had a couple of meals out with friends.

As we thought the fish and chips were awful, i don’t know why we keep getting them.

pavillion

Managed a run this morning in the woods next to the campsite we called it a mystery run as there are so many paths where you could go wrong. Into town for a walkabout and a look round the Pavilion and gardens.

A very wet day today we had to get all our foul weather waterproof running gear on to stay dry for our walk into Buxton. So we did some more washing to help fill the day. There is a Fish n Chip van on site tonight so fingers crossed.

railway

The 2 pictures for today are unusual things that pop up !!!! The first is yes believe it or not a Toy Story actor on our site. And the second is a piece of railway line as a weight for closing a gate 1000 feet above Sea level.

Long drive for us 2 ½ hours short motorway stretch. It’s expensive now on the M6 Toll £8.60 now the Caravan club don’t get discount but still worth the short cut.

temple

Arrived at 1200 and as usual we were given a pitch we had not asked for….. a Serviced pitch, this time they said it’s an electrical thing. I isn’t going to use any more electric on either pitch. We have started to monitor this changing pitch types as it happens far too much. Sometimes you can’t book a standard pitch as they are all taken on the bookings but we have never been on a site yet that has standard pitches full???? On arrival.

walk

Walked into Buxton through the woods, a great walk, coffee and a walkabout then back to the site, tea then a lovely surprise, a fell race outside the site to Solomon’s Temple. What a lovely way to finish the day.  We even managed time to do some washing as Stratford site is not good for washing so we need to catch up before we leave Buxton.

The weather looks threatening so we skipped a run today and walked into town where we got soaked to the skin again, luckily it doesn’t happen often.

log

We have had a good stay and have enjoyed our running and cycle and trips into town. The campsite is OK but has its bad points.
Good for walking into town, and river taxi, the toilet cleaner is really dedicated to his job well done.

1.To Avoid damage to cars and caravans ball games are not permitted in the touring areas.
Children were playing football tennis and other ball games at all times even in front of the wardens are were not stopped.

2.Pets must not be left un-attended in your caravan.
Unless you’re a warden.

  1. We request that noise is kept to a minimum between 11.00pm and 0800am
There was 1 grownup with 2 girls making a noise until 0130am right next to a wardens tent and within 50 meters of 2 more site wardens accommodation and no body stopped it.

The washing up area Is normally open at 0600am but at 0930 it was still shut. There was a woman with all her washing up and Barbecue from the previous evening filling the hand basins in the toilet block with pots and filling her bucket from the shower. The wardens managed to open at 0930. People where washing there barbecue’s in the water points.

There has been an expensive pair of shoes laid on a pitch for 4 days and not removed by staff until the 5 day and was joined by a small padded jacket for the last day they must have been lonely.

Shoes

Still we have had a good time here, the water taxi people are FAB.

Good run this morning up to the monument we both knocked 2 minutes off our last run up. Walked into Stratford for lunch and coffee and decided we need to see Aladdin.

cinema

We are members of the Picture house down here so despite trying to get in as 2 unescorted 5 year olds (yes really) it only cost us £5.00 each and we had the cinema to ourselves.  What a great film makes John Wick look bad (which it was.) Boat back to site as the weather has turned a bit damp.

Cycle day today through town and out onto the Greenway to Long Marston not one off the best cycles but at least exercise. A bit bumpy and at times a doggy walking area. The railway carriage cafes are closed down we are not surprised in the 12 miles we only saw 7 cyclists.  Walked into Town after lunch and boat back in the evening walked up to the monument again.

Good steady drive, only 7 miles of motorway. Site very busy as still Bank Holiday. After lunch walked into town for a walkabout and coffee, caught the ferry boat back.

Next day went for a run to the Obelisk. This obelisk has ties to the Lake District, the dedication is to a man who owned bobbin mills in Staveley.

m

Today walked into town again, checked out the canal towpath with regards to cycling, walked down the river bank towards another cycle we want to do called The Greenway. Market on today, as it was yesterday and day before.
