Good drive up, didn’t get chance to stop in Glen Coe as Mountain Rescue and Police dealing with a dead body. Stopped at Ballachulish for shopping then onto Fort William. First of all did some laundry, then washed the van, then onto look at the new layout in the Information Centre.
Cold overnight, down to 4C but able to sit out early morning when the sun got to our pitch. Off for a run on the forest trails, then off for a cycle into the town then through Caol to the Neptune’s Staircase where we saw a large vessel entering the lock system. Runners starting to appear on the site.
Had a good 2 days at Witches Craig had a good run up by Logie Kirk and then bused into Stirling see picture of old school entrance with signs of the Zodiac around the door, later in the afternoon coffee at The Coffee Bothy. An interesting item in The Churchyard was an old drinking cup.
Had a great couple of weeks in The Lake district catching up with friends, visiting Ambleside, Windermere, Keswick, Allonby, Cockermouth and lots of super small churches.
Friends from Harrogate visited us for 5 days and we have had some good times and great food at The Pheasant pub in Keswick. We all visited the Lakeland Motor Museum Nr. Newby Bridge.
Drove back through Coniston and on to Hodge Close. We are now moving on with our travels to Scotland for a while.
Up early and a walk over to the Oaks Outlet village for a walkabout and a Costa Coffee. A short drive up to Southport. Wow the tide was in. Walked into town for a look about then back to the site just in time to avoid the rain Ugh! This well kept award winning van was on the site Built in the 80’s 200,000 miles and still going, great guy to talk to.
Bus back into Chester for a more thorough look around. Lovely town. In the evening we were told how good the fish and chips were from the van that comes to the site. Not very good at all, quite disappointed. Picture below Alpacas outside campsite entrance.
Next day decided to get the bikes and follow the canal tow path into Chester. Yet another mistake here – bumpy canal path and a long way. After 50 minutes we were half a mile from the town and the heavens opened so turned and cycled as fast as we could over the bumps back to the site. After lunch went for a coffee at the Cheshire Oaks Retail Park. The below photograph taken on the canal bank shows our love of the unusual. Like the speed camera!!! You need to click the image for a larger picture to see all the boots.
Up early trip into Liverpool today a 50 mins. journey by bus. On arrival caught the tourist bus to look at the sights. The first place being the New Cathedral, we then walked to the Old Cathedral.
Back on the bus for a trip to the docks and WOW rain not seen for weeks but typical us being on an open topped bus
Left Shrewsbury and within 5 minutes in a traffic jam. 3 miles took us 30 minutes. Arrived at site and heard from one of the wardens they had just had a gypsy problem but no worries as it had been sorted. We took a deep breath and boarded a bus for town (it broke down).
Had a good walk around the town once we got there. Got back to the site and decided to do some laundry, came to using the dryer and someone had beaten us to it.? There is only one washing machine. On chatting to the lady she said they got back to the van and the dog had been sick on the duvet so she washed off the sick and threw it in the dryer!!!! WTF. But we cleaned the dryer, all OK (What a day so unusual).
Took the Park and Ride into Shrewsbury, bus extremely busy and we had to pay a small amount even though we have a pass. Interesting to find that Charles Darwin was born in Shrewsbury. Went to see the Alkmund’s Church first, then to the Abbey, looked around a shopping centre then coffee and sandwich for lunch. More walk about and went to see The Dingle garden. Beautiful flowers, click on the image below for larger picture.
Good journey arrived lunchtime so into town and a visit to the cinema to See Mama mia (not bad).
