21 – 26 February 2018 – Benicassim / Vilanova Park
Lots of good weather for our stay back in Benicassim. Cycled all over and walked in the hills. Great coffee breaks in the town with live bands over the weekend.
Dancing ducks below on one of the Camping and Caravan clubs rally pitches.
Good journey up to Vilanova, weather a bit overcast and cold. Campsite very busy as usual and took quite a while to find a pitch suitable. Easy day today, tomorrow on with the fun.
Cycle today to Castellon. Tried a new coffee shop in the back streets. Coffee quite good.
Lots of activity on the site this week as they are removing the pine trees and replacing with Maple trees. More manageable and they don’t house the processional caterpillars nests.
A first for us – on the campsite today! people on campsites tend to pamper their dogs with nice clothes and doggy pushchairs. BUT today we were left speechless when a woman came past with a BUNNY RABBIT in a pushchair!
Early start for our move to Valencia arriving at 9.30. After a coffee got the bikes out and cycled up to the city centre. Weather turned lovely and sunny for our return to campsite. Came across some traditional dancing in the square behind the cathedral.
Another early start again for our trip to Benicassim. This journey was only an hour so decided to drop off motorway early into Castellon. Very quiet day sat in the sun reading.
Train to Altea for coffee and a walk-about. Back to site for lunch then shopping ready for our move. Darian was talking to some neighbours on the site about sewing machines – oops, should keep his mouth shut – ended up mending a sewing machine for a lady on the site. Good job no-one has a well head needs diving on!
Drove to Rojales Hills to stay with relatives, Patsy and Paul. After lunch went for a short walk in the locality then in the evening went to the Club for a carvery and some entertainment. First time we have had entertainment which was an opera singer – she was very good.
After breakfast on Sunday morning drove to the coast to a place we had never been – Horadada. Had a good walk along the sea front and then lovely coffee before returning to Rojales where Patsy and Paul cooked an amazing meal for us. All in all a stunning couple of days.
After a bad morning of rain, confining us to the van, the weather cleared and we were fortunate enough to arrive in town to watch the time trial on the 3rd stage of the Poble nou de Benitatxell, Calpe.
Spent the last few days with our friends drinking all the coffee in Calpe. They have now departed for pastures new. Done lots of cycling and walking although the weather has dropped quite cold. Had quite a bit of rain and had to wear hat and gloves and still not out of trousers. It has never been so cold. Been down to Benidorm again and treated ourselves to a Costa coffee which was very good. Called into the old town to photograph a hotel for a friend which she said had featured in the television series Four in a Bed.
Patsy and Paul came up to Calpe and we had lunch with them in restaurant Romantica on the sea front always a good meal. Coffee in our usual high rise coffee stop (The Sky Lounge) with a great view of the campsite and a lovely high diving board!
