Still waking up to lovely weather and views below sunrise behind Skiddaw.
Had a drive down to Maryport to see if the campsite was filling up on the harbor.
I then drove on to Workington to get a picture of the old mine I think its a lovely building more akin to a Castle.
Doing a lot of Art work at the moment on a large sign I have done and designing a new one for a Studio rental accommodation.
A drive up to Silloth again to get some good memories of running Up Criffel in Scotland a very boggy fell race.

Still visiting new places on the Cumbria coast did the other side of the harbor but not much could not get down to the speedway looks like a back up storage area for Iggesund/ Holmen wood.
Its interesting (at the moment) staying on a closed road and seeing the work progress and wow how much tarmac it takes to fill such a small area.
Not having any problems getting out yet !

Had a drive down to the harbor entrance at Workington a first for me.
This stone hut, on the south bank of the River Derwent estuary, was built in the early 1800s as a shelter for a harbour worker. A workman watched the tide in the estuary from the shelter and raised and lowered a marker to inform seamen of the water depth. The chimney stack is a recent cosmetic addition.

The Reivers Route is a 170-mile coast-to-coast cycle route from Tynemouth to Whitehaven through unspoilt Northumberland and the Kielder Forest. The route takes in Carlisle and the Lake District and provides a great alternative or return route for the Sea to Sea (C2C) Route.
Sculpted by the north eastern company Fire Pit Design, ‘Alauna Aura’ is a stainless steel sculpture positioned on the Maryport Harbour. Named by the public, ‘Alauna’ refers to the Roman name of the area in which Maryport lies, with aura perhaps referring to the rich energy that emanates from the area’s local tradition and history. At first glance circular, the orb is instead ellipse shaped, decorated in a multitude of detailed cut-outs of ships, figures, and the name of the town amongst other images relating to the local landscape and culture. All of the images cut from the steel make reference to the history and heritage of Maryport, hearkening back to the Roman times, its fishing and mining industries, shipbuilding and its involvement in the Titanic.
At night the sculpture is transformed, lit up with changing colours that create an aura of mysticism as they flicker around the harbour.
Cycle this morning down to Maryport Harbor spotted some lovely ? see images
Graffiti unusual up here on the Sea Cadets building.

Still enjoying Travelling around in Cumbria exploring the west coast area at the moment. The Beach at Allonby early in the morning.
Drive down to Workington for a walk about.
Drive up to Silloth for a walk about.
Drive down to look at the town of Maryport and the Harbour if you arrive at the right time you can still buy fish straight for the trawler.
Some of the boats are in need of a bit of care.
Some FAB buildings around and lots of pubs counted 6 on the way back from the harbour to the high street.
Allonby had 12 pubs at one time for such a small place but the town needed them as their was a smugglers route for whisky into The Lakes.
16 – 22 October 2024 Keswick
